I learned a lot putting this kit together and the end result was brilliant! I would suggest putting a black under coat on the wood first to make the grain pop, it sure did work for me. I added a german silver patchbox and embellishments and all I can say is wow! I had to do quite a bit of fitting and inletting and I enjoyed every minute of it. I think I'll purchase the flintlock version the future. Only three suggestions I would make if anyone is listening. It would great to have this version without the patchbox already installed. I think it would be easier to install a new patchbox than to retrofit over the existing one. Secondly more clarification on the wood type would be nice. In one place it says walnut and in another hardwood select. I have no doubt it is hardwood, and maybe it is walnut, but it would be nice to know exactly which species. Thirdly assembly directions that are specific to the product. The instructions I received were a smelt between percussion and flintlock. If a consumer is going to dish out four hundred buckeroos they deserve product specific instructions. Overall I rate this product as fantastic! It was a real hoot to put together.
